Chevron
is an integrated energy company. Their operations include the
exploration, development, production, and marketing of crude
oil and natural gas, as well as refining oil into petroleum
products and tranportatoin of petroleum products.
The company was formed
in 1984 by the merger of Standard Oil of California and Gulf
Oil. Standard Oil of California dates back to 1911 and was
created by the breakup of Standard Oil. Chevron acquired Texaco
in 2001 and changed their name to ChevronTexaco. They later
dropped "Texaco" from their corporate
name. Chevron's 2007 revenues were
220.9 billion dollars. The company has 65,000 employees and is
headquartered in San Ramon, California.
The copmany joined the Dow
Jones Industrial Average on February 19, 2008. They are
currently also a member of the Dow Jones Composite, S&P
100, S&P 500, and S&P 1500 Super Comp. The stock symbol
is CVX.
