Caterpillar manufactures and sells construction
equipment, mining equipment, engines, and gas turbines
globally. Caterpillar is well known for their bulldozers which
carry a distinctive yellow paint design.
Caterpillar was formed in
1925 through the merger of Holt Manufacturing Company and C.L.
Best Gas Traction Company. Today they are also commonly known
as "CAT." Caterpillar's 2007
revenues were 45.0 billion dollars. The company has 105,000
employees and is headquartered in Peoria, Illiniois.
The copmany joined the Dow
Jones Industrial Average on May 6, 1991. They are currently
also a member of the Dow Jones Composite, S&P 100, S&P
500, and S&P 1500 Super Comp. The stock symbol is
CAT.
