Inc. is the world's leader in the production
of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum, and
aluminum combined. The company is involved all aspects of the
aluminum cycle including mining, refining, smelting,
fabricating, and recycling. Their products are used in
airplanes, cars, transportation, building and contruction, and
consumer packaging and products.
The company was founded in
1888 by Charles Martin Hall who discovered the process for
smelting aluminum.
Alcoa's 2007 revenues were
30.7 billion dollars. The company has 97,000 employees in 34
countries and is headquartered in New York, New
York.
The copmany joined the Dow
Jones Industrial Average on June 1, 1959 when it was known as
Aluminum Company of America. They are currently also a member
of the Dow Jones Composite, S&P 100, S&P 500, and
S&P 1500 Super Comp. The stock symbol is AA.
